"All of us started batting around the idea of the '80s, and it seems like so much of '80s is making a comeback whether you see 'Stranger Things' and remakes of movies like 'It' and things like that," said DeSear. On Thursday, members of the media got to tour the attraction and see its different activities. Suzanne DeSear, general manager of Ripley's attractions in Sevier County, said the '80s theme helps tie the attractions together in a way that's fun, colorful and family friendly. The new Ripley's Super Fun Zone, 542 Parkway, is set to open in around two weeks and will feature retro-themed attractions including indoor laser tag, mini-golf, a retail shop and shooting gallery. Part of the arcade is a small candy shop which offers bulk candy.Watch Video: Take a look inside Ripley's Super Fun Zone on the Gatlinburg ParkwayĪ new Ripley's attraction in Gatlinburg will transport guests back to the 1980s. Of course you could go buy one much cheaper, but when you factor in the fun component and family time, it's not a bad deal. On the plus side, it's not terribly difficult to win enough tickets to get a decent sized stuffed animal or other prize. Having one more person working would solve this problem. When we visited on this particular trip, it took about 15-20 minutes before we could cash our credits. I would suggest the management hire additional personnel as is can be frustrating to wait, especially if you have smaller children. However, the staff tends to be overwhelmed and it may take a while before they can get to you. We have always found the staff to be friendly and accommodating when we need to cash in our credits for prizes or if a machine malfunctions. Some can be rather pricy per play, but with a little patience, you can have fun for a reasonable cost. Game prices are about what you expect in a resort town. I find the system to work better and be more convenient than the old ticket method. This arcade uses electronic cards for keeping track of your ticket winnings rather than traditional tickets. ![]() Definitely a good place to take the kids for an hour or so to beat the heat, rain, etc. Sometimes the new games are great, sometimes we miss the old ones, but this is the nature of the arcade business though. They seem to rotate games fairly regularly and there are generally a few new ones when we visit. This is not a huge arcade, but it's one we always stop by when in Gatlinburg. THIS WAS NOT MY CHILD- but seriously? you say that to a customer and a 4 YEAR OLD?!! ![]() They looked at each other and said, "the kid just needs to realize he isn't getting a prize." Instead of apologizing and offering something else. ![]() Another family was trying to get a prize for their 4 year old- and the workers said they didn't have a key to the "cheap" prizes. ![]() I went to the counter again- to get refunded. AGAIN it took our tokens- but at this point we just wanted to leave. Then we went to a particular game- it took our money TWICE!! Finally, we asked the worker to just give us the tokens and we went to another game. Of course, we didn't get refunded- and the quarter wouldn't work the machine. First off, the games were outrageous!! Next, my son accidentally put a quarter in a maching instead of the token. We were not planning on visiting the Super Fun Zone- but we were given a few tokens for using the Putt-Putt Course.
