In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Donna Marie Tommelleo of Connecticut sons, Thomas (Lynn) Tommelleo III and Andrew John Tommelleo, both of New Castle four grandsons, Andrew Tommelleo Jr., Thomas (Corinne) Tommelleo IV, Aaron Tommelleo and Anthony Tommelleo two great-grandchildren, Brennan Lombaiso and Clara Jean Tommelleo and many beloved nieces and nephews. ![]() He also introduced his family to "the mountains" in Elk County, Pennsylvania, where he built a hunting camp on old farmland and it became his peaceful retreat for many years. He married the former Rita Mae Cangey on May 5, 1955, and together the couple raised three children. Tom was a skilled hunter and fisherman, possessing lifelong love of the outdoors. He was a consultant with Bruce and Merrilees and then finished his career as a project superintendent with AJ Dick Corp. He retired from PennDOT in 1986, but continued to work in construction in the private sector for several years. As an assistant district construction engineer, Tom oversaw a number of new road and bridge construction in western Pennsylvania, including Interstate 79 and Route 60. Upon his discharge, he enrolled at Youngstown State and studied civil engineering, which led him to his 35-year career with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. His tour of duty included the North Atlantic, exposing him to many European ports, Iceland and New York City. A radioman aboard the destroyer USS Harry F. In addition to his wife and parents, Vaughn is preceded in death by his brother Darius Wayne Gilhousen, and an infant brother. Vaughn is survived by 6 children, Christine (Denny) Popson, Robin (Ralph Juart) Park, Steve (Brenda) Gilhousen, Brenda (Eric) Wolfe, Linda Lasher, Cherry Wolfe 1 sister Patricia (Tom) Breakey 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He also loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and he was very proud of the many sets of twins that his family and extended family have. Vaughn kept all the stats of the games he watched whether it was Major League Baseball or little league down at the Brookville ball fields, he just loved the game. He loved watching baseball and he was a huge Pirates fan. He enjoyed taking his side-by-side for rides, and he loved having a good time he never acted his age and he was always the life of the party. He loved to hunt and fish, and really anything that involved the outdoors he would participate in. Vaughn was a lifetime member of the Knox Dale Sportsman's Club, and he was also a member of the National Rifle Association, and the Fireman's Club in Brookville, PA. He spent his entire career, which was 34 years, working for National Fuel, he retired as a well tender at the age of 58. Vaughn spent a few years serving his country as a member of the United States Air Force, and he was honorably discharged. On January 17, 1962, Vaughn married Elaine (Kahle) Gilhousen, in Knox Dale, PA Elaine preceded him in passing on June 25, 2008. Vaughn was born on October 25, 1938, to the late Ottis Clayton and Eleanor R. Vaughn Ottis Gilhousen, age 78, of Pine Creek Twp., Jefferson Co., PA, passed away in the comfort of his home on Friday, January 6, 2017.
